Mountain Leaders are qualified by B.O.S. the Irish Mountain Training Board. The Mountain Leader (M.L.) qualification consists of approximately 600 hours of mountain training activities in the Irish Mountains. Training includes mentoring, observation and direct instructions, which is followed by a three day assessment in some of the harshest mountain environments Ireland has to offer.
Before becoming an M.L. each leader has completed and passed the Mountain Skills(M.S.) syllabus which consists of MS1 training followed by a consolidation period then MS2 training which then culminates in a Mountain Skills Assessment. Please see Mountaineering Ireland for further information.
As you can see from the above all our mountain leaders are very experienced in the mountains but we don’t stop there. All our leaders have a background in leading hikes and hill walks at the highest club level. They lead hikes at all grades for some of Dublin’s premier clubs and have lead on numerous charity hikes and events. Our leaders will never let you down, day or night and will see you safely home.
All our leaders have a Remote Emergency Care 3 (REC) qualification. This training is specific to the outdoors and covers all the necessary procedures should you need care in the hills. Please see full details here about the training our leaders have undergone.
We would encourage everyone to get out on to the hillsides as its one of the best pastime anyone can have. It keeps you fit, costs little and is a great way of meeting new friends. If you don’t feel the need for a mountain guide or any of our hikes we suggest looking at the hiking clubs page on Mountaineering Ireland’s website.
We follow the standard hill walking grading system:
Leisurely – easy navigated paths with little or no climbing, suitable for all.
Moderate – rougher terrain with uphill sections, suitable for regular hill walkers.
Hard/Strenuous – rough terrain with steep uphill climbs and difficult sections, suitable for experienced hill walkers and hikers only.
We are members of the Mountain Leader Training Association and UIMLA
